The Lot is a private household tool built and operated by Jon Lamb for personal use by household members during a vehicle-shopping process. It is not a commercial product, sign-ups are invite-only, and it is not used to market to outside parties. This policy explains what data the app handles and how it’s protected.
Data we collect
- Account data: email address and display name of household members, supplied at sign-in.
- Vehicle data:details household members enter about cars they’re considering — year/make/model, prices, ratings, notes, photos.
- Communications data(when the Communications layer is enabled): inbound and outbound calls and SMS exchanged between the household’s dedicated dealer-line phone number and dealership employees the household has met in person. Includes call recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated summaries.
- Usage data: standard server logs from Vercel (request paths, IPs, user agents) for security and reliability.
How we use it
All data is used solely to operate The Lot for its household members — tracking the shopping process, comparing options, and managing dealer communications. We do not run analytics on user behavior beyond standard error and performance logs. We do not display advertising.
SMS / text messaging
The Lot sends one-to-one text messages from the household’s dedicated phone number to dealership representatives the household is actively working with.
- How recipients opt in.Consent is collected in person. A dealership representative the household meets enters their own mobile number on the household member’s device (or provides it to be entered) and affirmatively turns on a consent toggle to receive follow-up texts about the specific vehicle discussed. The toggle is off by default; consent is never pre-selected, purchased, rented, or transferred from another party. Each opt-in is recorded with its date and the exact consent language shown.
- Not a condition of purchase. Opting in is voluntary. Consent is not a condition of any purchase, sale, service, or other transaction, and declining to opt in has no effect on the interaction with the household.
- What we send.One-to-one follow-ups about a vehicle the recipient and the household discussed — for example price, availability, financing, document requests, and scheduling. We do not send marketing or promotional campaigns.
- Opt-out / help. Reply
STOPat any time to stop receiving messages from the household’s number, orHELPfor assistance. Both are honored automatically. - Message frequency varies with the conversation; there is no marketing schedule.
- Message and data rates may applyfrom the recipient’s mobile carrier.
- No sharing. No mobile information — phone numbers, opt-in records, or message content — will be shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging opt-in consent is not shared with any third party.
Voice call recording
Inbound and outbound voice calls between the household’s dealer-line phone number and dealership contacts may be recorded for note-taking purposes. Every recorded call begins with an audible disclosure that the call is being recorded — continuing the call constitutes consent in every U.S. jurisdiction, and callers may hang up to opt out. Recordings are stored privately and accessible only to household members.
Sub-processors
The Lot uses the following service providers to operate. Each processes data only as needed to deliver their service:
- Supabase— database, authentication, and file storage (vehicle data, photos, recordings).
- Vercel— application hosting and serverless compute.
- Anthropic— AI processing of listing extraction, shopping insights, call screening, and call/SMS extraction (Claude).
- OpenAI— voice transcription of call recordings (Whisper).
- Twilio— voice and SMS carrier connectivity.
- Cloudflare— email routing for the contact address listed below.
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices. The household trusts their published policies for the data they process on our behalf.
Data retention and deletion
Vehicle data, photos, recordings, and communications history are retained until a household member deletes them or the household account is terminated. To request deletion of all data associated with the household, contact us at the email below.
Access
Data is scoped to the household via row-level security in the underlying database. Only authenticated members of a household can read or modify that household’s data. The Lot does not allow public access to any household’s records.
Children
The Lot is not intended for use by anyone under 18 and does not knowingly collect data from minors.
